What to Expect in the 2024 Elections?
As we are approaching the 2024 elections date, we must first admit what a rollercoaster ride this has been! Over the past two years, we have seen a lot, from political rivalry to assassination attempts to blackouts and whatnot. It has been a tough two years for the country. With the rise of inflation and unemployment skyrocketing, there seems to be an air of despair, anguish, and hopelessness among the youth. But what awaits are the mighty 2024 elections. Some say and even argue that this year will be the greatest year of democracy as we are seeing other nations going through a supposed elections phase.
A Look Back At The Last Two Years
The last two years have been politically very active for the country. They were starting from the arrival of PDM. PDM movement was an alliance of many political parties all rallied against one man: Imran Khan.
PDM not only rallied against Imran Khan but was successful in ousting him during his regime, making him yet another prime minister to not complete his regime. This was led by the massive backfire of both parties where many PTI politicians were arrested. It was a very tough year for the country’s judicial system where the great army of the country backed an alliance. This happens to create seismic shifts among the people of the nation.
Imran Khan’s Assassination Attempt
During this time, Imran Khan was rallying against the PDM movement to prove his innocence and fight against his unlawful ousting. It was during this time that he was met with an assassination attempt. On November 3, Imran Khan was shot in an assassination attempt in Wazirabad, Punjab, during the 2022, Azadi march. It was a close call for Imran Khan but luckily they ended up, shooting his leg which was badly injured. This assassination attempt created waves in the country and enraged his supporters.
2022 Pakistan Floods
Another major event that jolted the entire country was the 2022 Pakistani floods. Pakistan’s 2022 monsoon season produced significant rainfall, devastating floods, and landslides, affecting millions of people. It was catastrophic for the country as it affected all the provinces of the country and affected at least 15% of its population. It was a time of great loss for the country where many people lost their homes and livelihoods. During these trying times, the country went ahead and helped those in need. The unity shown at that time was exemplary.
9 May Riots
9 may go down as one of the most historical days for the country. It was indeed a day of great anguish and riots. Following the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman and party head, Imran Khan, from the grounds of the Islamabad High Court, demonstrations held by the PTI supporters led to violent attacks. Within a few hours, these attacks and riots escalated, leading to the arrest of many people. The country entered a complete state of shock as internet services were cut off. Authorities arrested and incarcerated those who went against the military and challenged the state. PTI continues to allege that a false flag operation was designed to disintegrate the PTI and frame Imran Khan.
Sneak Peek Into The 2024 Elections: Predictions And Key Insights
As the country gears up for the 2024 elections, there is much anticipation going on. In the latest press release, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has given a time frame to conduct the 2024 elections. 2024 elections are most likely to be conducted in the middle of February.
Given the ongoing uncertainty, the 2024 elections mood has yet to descend into the villages and cities of the country. This election seems dreary and seems hopeless in the eyes of youth. But there is still so much to expect from this year’s elections. Here is what you can expect in the coming election;
Political Alliances and Party Dynamics
There might be shifts in the political alliances, with parties forming new coalitions or reconfiguring existing ones to strengthen their positions. This could potentially affect the overall landscape and election outcomes.
Tough Time for Imran Khan
In the latest turn of events, the election commission of Pakistan has disallowed Imran Khan to contest in the elections. Imran Khan who is the most popular leader has alleged that Pakistan’s military is colluding with traditional parties to destroy his political party and prevent him from running for office ever again. It is a tough time for his party members and his supporters. It is unfortunate that the PTI is not given a fair and is denied a level playing field.
Key Issues and Campaign Focus
The 2024 elections campaigns are likely to focus on key issues such as the economy, security, governance and more. Candidates might be focusing on issues concerning the public and would appeal to their voters.
Role of Youth and New Voters
With a significant portion of the country being youth, political parties might intensify efforts to engage and mobilize young voters. Youth-related policies and initiatives might gain prominence in the party manifestos.
The Arrival of Old Faces
Unfortunately, we won’t be seeing any new faces in this year’s 2024 elections campaign as there will be an arrival of old faces like that of Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif, and Asif Ali Zardari.
Electrol Reforms and Transparency
There might be discussions or movements for electoral reforms to ensure transparency, fairness, and credibility in the electoral process.
Regional Relations
Political parties will try their best to work in the best interests of regions. Many candidates will visit many other regions and provinces to actively listen to the concerns of those who are oppressed and in need of a voice. Sadly, politicians marginalize others only when it works for their interests.
Economical Challenges
There will be many economic challenges. 2024 elections will require a certain cut from the budget which will bring a rise in inflation and would cause an economic crisis.
Role of Media and Technology
The role of media and social media platforms will shape public opinions and will influence voters. Potential political parties will most likely leverage technology and digital platforms to reach a wider audience and convey their messages.
Threat to Polling Stations
Considering the history of election campaigns, there might be a possible threat to the polling stations. There must be a proper and thorough checking of the polling station to conduct free and fair 2024 elections.
