These vacancies in the general category arose in the federal capital, with two in Sindh and three in Balochistan, as senators relinquished their seats after being elected as members of the National Assembly and provincial assemblies.

The timetable for the 48 Senate seats up for election on April 2 was released by the ECP Issues Schedule Election Commission of Pakistan Ecp Issues Schedule on Thursday. Returning officers (ROs) will release a public notice today in accordance with the electoral body’s schedule, inviting potential candidates to submit their nomination papers. This will be followed by a scrutiny procedure and an appeals process.
This situation occurs as the ECP Issues Schedule declared on Monday that elections will be held to fill the Senate seats that became vacant following the expiration of the current senators’ six-year term on March 11. Only 48 seats would be up for election, though, as the 25th Amendment to the Constitution eliminated the four reserved seats for the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

The Punjab, Sindh, and Punjabi assemblies’ members will cast ballots to choose representatives in opposition to seven general seats, two seats reserved for women, and two seats designated for technocrats, including Ulema.
The assembly of Punjab and Sindh would also vote on one seat each for non-Muslims. It further stated that senators from the National Assembly will choose one senatorial seat for general representation and one seat reserved for technocrats, which will include Ulema from the federal capital.
