What Causes Global Warming?
We have been hearing about global warming for a very long time. It’s been many years since we have been hearing how it is the new pandemic. A pandemic and disaster so strong to destroy all of us. Yes, that’s how dangerous global warming is.
But before we dive in, let’s unveil what it is.
What Is Global Warming?
The literal definition of global warming is the gradual increase in the earth’s temperature generally due to the greenhouse effect caused by increased levels of carbon dioxide, CFC, and other pollutants.
If we dig into the broader explanation, then it would be, the phenomenon of a gradual increase in the temperature near the earth’s surface. This phenomenon has been observed for the past two to three centuries. This change has disturbed Earth’s overall temperature. However, the concept is overall very controversial but through much research, scientists have been able to provide us with the data and relevant information.
It is therefore very important to realise the many impacts of this phenomenon. Furthermore, the identification of the many causes is also very important.
What Causes Global Warming?
It occurs when carbon dioxide (CO2) and other air pollutants collect in the atmosphere and absorb sunlight and solar radiation that have bounced off the surface of the earth.
Normally, this radiation would reach space, but these pollutants can last for centuries and centuries to come. These heat-trapping pollutants including methane, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, water vapour, and synthetic fluorinated gases are known as greenhouse gases and their impact is called the greenhouse effect.
There are other causes as well, following are some important causes;
- deforestation
- use of vehicles
- chlorofluorocarbons
- industrial development
- agriculture
- overpopulation
What Are The Long-Term Effects Of Global Warming?
Scientists have predicted that long-term effects of climate change will include a decrease in sea ice and an increase in permafrost thawing, an increase in heat waves and heavy precipitation, and decreased water sources in semi-arid regions.
What we see right now is a catastrophe that is unfolding which is global warming.
Effects Of Global Warming
There are many effects of global warming. The following are some important ones;
1. Rise In Temperature
Global warming has led to an incredible increase in the earth’s temperature.
Since 1880, the earth’s temperature has increased by -1 degrees. This has increased the melting down of the glaciers, which has led to an increase in the sea level. This could have devastating effects on coastal regions.
2. Threat To The Ecosystem
Global Warming has severely affected the earth’s ecosystem. It has affected the coral reefs which can lead to the loss of plant life. And it had made the conditions of oceans and rivers extremely bad.
3. Climate Change
Global warming has led to a change in climatic conditions. There are droughts as well as floods in some places. This climatic imbalance is the result of climate change.
4. Spread Of Diseases
Global warming leads to changes in the patterns of heat and humidity.
This has led to the movement of mosquitoes that carry and spread diseases.
5. High Morality Rates
Due to an increase in floods, tsunamis, and other natural calamities, the average death toll usually rises. Also, such events can bring about the loss of life and spread of deadly and dangerous diseases.
6. Loss Of Natural Habitat
A global shift in the climate leads to the loss of habitats of several plants and animals. In this case, the animals need to migrate from their natural habitat and many of them even become extinct. Therefore, it is also impacting biodiversity.
