Heart Surgery In India, We don’t get to see positive news daily, especially if it is on the other side of the border. But whenever we do, it’s always a delight to see that and it reaffirms our faith in humanity. This week we saw a beautiful and extremely positive story that made all of us happy. This story is as such that will erase the concept of borders from your mind. A Pakistani girl went to India where she was treated for her health. Here’s more to the story!
From Karachi To Chennai: Heart Surgery In India
The news broke out last week when a young 19-year-old girl named Ayesha Rashid, went through heart surgery in India where she was treated. Ayesha hails from Karachi, Pakistan where she has been dealing with cardiovascular disease since childhood.
Her parents claim that she has been dealing with a poor heart since the age of 14 and that’s when she went to India for the first time as well. Ayesha’s health went downhill back in 2019 when she was only 14 years old leading her to experience a cardiac arrest for the first time. As her health got complicated, she travelled to Chennai for heart surgery in India the first time. But as time passed, her health got more complicated, prompting her to return to Chennai in June 2023.
Ayesha was earlier met with financial distress when she claimed that her mother is a single mother and couldn’t afford such hefty treatments that would take 30-40 Lakhs very easily. It was then that Dr. K.R Balakrishanan came to the rescue.
Dr. K.R Balakrishanan: A Hero
Dr. K.R Balakrishanan said in an interview that Ayesha came to him earlier back in 2019 when she was only 14 years old and had heart failure and poor heart functioning. In the interview he went on to say that;
“She became very sick and had a cardiac arrest and had to be resuscitated with CPR and put on a machine called ECMO to sustain her circulation. She then had to be put on an artificial heart pump that time and she eventually recovered and went back to her country”
It was then revealed by Dr. K..R Balakrishnan that over the years her condition got worse as her heart became more weak. He went on to explain that one of her valves got leaked and as a result, she developed severe heart failure on the right side of her heart.
It was then that Dr.K.R Balakrishnan decided to help her. He added that arranging her use was a very tough task, but arranging money for her heart surgery in India was even tougher. He said that it was tough arranging money for her as her mother was a single mother and didn’t have the money.
Ayesha was treated in a private hospital and therefore the overall treatment would cost a lot so that’s when a Chennai-based NGO by the name of Aishwariya Trust helped Ayesha with her treatment. Dr. K.R Balakrishnan raised money through this trust and some of his generous patients also helped him raise money for Ayesha. It was after the money was arranged that Ayesha went through the surgery successfully. She underwent a heart surgery in India for a brain-dead elderly from Dehli.
The main problem that the doctors and Ayesha’s parents cite is the lack of equipment and treatment in Pakistan which was not readily available to Ayesha.
Ayesha’s Aspirations And Future Goals
Ayesha thanked the Indian government and the medical faculty in Chennai especially Dr.K.R Balakrishnan for heart surgery in India. She shares that she aspires to become a fashion designer one day and wishes to come back to India.
Her mother shared her painful and emotional heart surgery in India journey. She recounted her painful challenges and extended her gratitude towards Dr. K.R Balakrishnan for extending her daughter’s life.
