Ms. Merchant revealed to Vogue that she and Mr. Ambani went on a drive in 2017 and met through common acquaintances. “Our initial encounter ignited a unique bond between us, and we quickly began dating,” she remarked.
In the northwest Indian state of Rajasthan, near the Shrinathji Temple, Mr. Ambani proposed to Ms. Merchant in 2023.
The day of the Ambani wedding
The Ambani wedding was scheduled for July 12–14. The Hindu custom of marrying on an auspicious day chosen by the couple based on their birth charts set the dates.
On Friday, there was the “Shubh Vivaah” (lucky wedding); on Saturday, there was the “Shubh Aashirwad” (diving blessings); and on Sunday, there was the “Mangal Utsav” (wedding celebration).
The Engagement
For the weekend celebrations, over a thousand members of the global elite took a plane to Jamnagar, a city in the western Indian state of Gujarat, on March 1. Services like top chefs, cosmetic artists, chartered planes, and opulent cars for pickup and drop-off were available to guests. For the event, a glass palace was constructed, and over 5,000 drones were used in a light show.

Ambani wedding
The hit song “Despacito” by reggaeton musician Luis Fonsi was played at the wedding ceremony on Friday, July 12. Additionally performing were Bhangra singer Sukhbir and Afrobeats sensation Rema.
