When we talk about Pakistan we can’t help but think of Imran Khan, Imran khan is one of the most popular and loved politicians of all time. He is not just a politician but rather an emotion, a feeling. He is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated people in this country. There are many reasons as to why he is so much admired and respected in Pakistan.

A Backstory of Imran Khan

Khan’s once-friendly nature with General Bajwa soured in early 2022 when the army backfired on him. It was one of the most historic moments in the history of this country as he was ousted and his supporters were disappointed.

Khan took to the streets and on social media with a narrative that leveraged public grievances against corruption and poor governance as well as the interference of the army and the United States in the political matters of Pakistan.

Imran Khan’s popularity has only soared since. Since that time on has been vocal about it and has been blaming the current government for his ousting.

On May 9, 2023, parliamentary forces violently arrested Imran Khan from the premises of Islamabad High Court. His followers came out in protest and there was a huge blackout of the internet. It was one of the most violent weeks in the history of this country where there were riots, destruction, tear gases and vandalism.

Since May 9, the army intelligence has used various tools of coercion, to eventually remove him. This includes repeated arrests and sexual blackmail, to force the resignation of senior and mid-level figures in Imran Khan’s PTI.

Huge Voter Bank

PTI is undoubtedly, one of the fastest-growing political parties in Pakistan. It is surprising how so many PTI politicians have left, yet, the public still stands with Imran Khan.

Imran Khan’s party has almost 70% voter bank. Indeed it’s a great number, but, unfortunately, PTI is not getting a level playing field in this election.

One of the many reasons why PTI has such a big voter bank is because Imran Khan has always been a people’s man. He has always been that one celebrity who has always been loyal to his people.

It is because of his giving nature and that has always been the major reason for such a big voter bank.

Inspiration For Youth

Imran Khan is very popular among youth. Pakistan is a country with almost 60% being under the age of 30, eventually making it one of the youngest countries in the world.

He is an inspiration for young people because of his PTI youth programs, Furthermore, he has always stayed in touch with the young generation.

As a leader, he was aware of their problems and he has addressed that many times. One of the many reasons for his popularity is also the fact that he was a former captain of the Pakistani Cricket Team, his charming nature has always been one of the attractive features of time.

” Leaders like Khan are born once in a century,” says 18-year-old Aftab Ahmed, who left school to serve as a volunteer in Khan’s security force for four years. Aftab is only an example of the many 18-year-olds who are great fans of Imran Khan, consequently making him one of the most famous and celebrated leaders in this country.

Constructive Reforms

One of the many reasons why Imran Khan is loved is also because of the many reforms that he introduced during his tenure.

Besides, working on problems related to governance, he also managed to build a big force of people who are to this day his dire hard fans.

Ehsass Program was launched in 2019, the Ehssas program is a comprehensive social protection and poverty alleviation initiative. It aimed to provide financial assistance, education, employment and opportunities to the underprivileged.

• Kamyab Jaawan Program

This initiative focused on empowering youth by providing them with financial and technical assistance to start their businesses. It involved schemes such as low-interest loans and skill development programs.

• Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme

This initiative aimed at addressing the housing shortage in the country, and this initiative aimed at providing houses to those who couldn’t afford it.

This has to be one of the most important and commendable initiatives from Imran Khan, in which he introduced a health card aiming to provide financial assistance to vulnerable segments of society. A lot of people benefitted from this program and got free medical treatments.

Bottom Line

The Pakistan Army or PDM may have the ability to coerce or remove Imran Khan from the surface but Imran Khan isn’t forgettable. No matter how hard anyone tries, he is a force, he is popular ever.
