We all need to admit that Afghanistan was exceptional and unprecedented this season and has qualified for the semi-finals of the World Cup for the first time.
In the semi-final, they will be facing South Africa, while cricketing giants England and India will clash in the other semi. Afghanistan’s historic qualification was sealed after a nail-biting victory against Bangladesh in the final Super 8 match. The match, held on Tuesday, was a roller-coaster ride for fans as rain interruptions added to the suspense. Chasing a target of 116 runs, which was revised to 114 in 19 overs due to rain, Bangladesh succumbed to the relentless Afghan bowling attack, getting bowled out for 105 in 17.5 overs.

While T20 World Cup 2024 is approaching its end from the 20 teams at the start to the last four who will be competing in the semi-final on June 27 in the West Indies. When we are talking about the semi we can’t help but mention India. India became the third team to qualify for the T20 World Cup semi-final on Monday after England and South Africa. The Men in Blue beat Australia by 24 runs in their recent match.
It is noticeable that India was just commendable and impressive this season and just out of the box this season. While they have reached the finals it is also noticeable that their performance against Pakistan was just something else. The Afghanistan-Bangladesh match, which we all saw was reduced to 19 overs during the second innings, was a decider for three teams: Australia, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. With India beating Australia and sliding into the finals, the former champions were dependent on Bangladesh to help them qualify. A win for Bangladesh would have had Australia but we saw Afghanistan sneak through and take the spot.

While we are talking about the finals it is also very important to talk about Pakistan and its disappointing performance in this tournament. It is extremely concerning how badly and poorly the players performed this season.
So much so, that the cricket board in Pakistan has to take some very bold steps in order to ensure the quality of the cricket and the team. We all saw what happened at the Pakistan Vs USA match and the horrible performance that we all saw at Pakistan Vs India was something for the history books.
