Pakistani Education System: A Dilemma
Education is one of the most important things in the world, if not the MOST important. The power of education and its impact is irreplaceable. The importance of education is something that Islam has talked a lot about. While we talk about the education system of Pakistan, we are greatly taken aback. The broken education system of our country is extremely disappointing. Our education system is broken to the core. Here is why we think that the education system of Pakistan is in a dilemma.
1. Cost Of Pakistani Education System
One of the biggest reasons why we think that the education system of our country is a dollar is because of the cost of education. The cost of education in our country has become too high. These days schools, colleges and universities have become businesses.
Universities and many other educational institutions are solely for making more and more money. This has furthermore created many problems for those who come from middle-class or lower-middle-class backgrounds. Rising inflation has already pushed many into the poverty line and now many cannot send their children to schools because of the rising cost of education.
2. Privatisation Of Public Educational Institutions
The privatisation of public institutions has led to many problems and it has created many hurdles for people. Privatization of public universities creates several problems such as the high cost of education which we have discussed before. Parents find it very hard to sponsor their children to these universities which cost a lot because of privatisation.
Many public universities are approaching privatisation which means that it will become more difficult to get into them because of high fees. This moreover means that from now on it will cater to only the rich and elite class of the country. This is nothing but only a business model adopted by these universities.
3. Obsolete Curriculum
Obsolete and outdated curricula are also the main problem. Our education system is so obsolete that we have resorted to old methods of teaching. Most of what we are taught is what we don’t need to know. Instead of equipping our students with new skills and teaching them courses like machine learning and artificial intelligence, we teach them extremely outdated stuff that they’ll never use in their lives.
This extends to our universities as well where students are taught the most basic stuff.
3. Lack Of Teaching Faculty
One of the most growing problems right now is the inadequate teaching faculty. We don’t have teachers who are qualified enough to teach complex subjects. Professors in Pakistani universities are selected based on “sifarish”. A lot of politics is involved in these esteemed universities.
Moreover, we don’t have many who are PhD holders thus creating a massive problem for those who want to pursue PhD in Pakistan. Furthermore, we don’t have a proper teaching system in our country. Most teachers are recruited on extremely low salaries.
4. Lack Of Innovation And Creativity
Students these days are more inclined towards the theoretical side rather than the practical implementation of it. Most graduates don’t know the practical implementation of something because they were not taught about it in the first place.
Moreover, there is no innovation or creativity in these universities. the education system doesn’t allow you to think critically. We are so used to studying patterns that most students don’t have an out-of-the-box approach to things. Most students are more focused on having a job than actually finding solutions or building big companies.
5. The Supremacy Of Medical
One of the main reasons why we cannot excel in terms of education is because we don’t regard other professions.
Even today professions like medical and engineering are considered to be alpha and omega. Parents and teachers don’t keep up with the modern world and still pressure their kids to follow the path of medical college. Moreover, creating more colleges and academies whose sole focus is to make more money.
There aren’t many medical colleges in our country but still, so many students want to get into them.
Conclusion
These are some very hardcore and important problems in our society. If we want to excel in terms of education then we must reevaluate our education system and work on creating a more advanced approach towards it.
