It is June which reminds us of the birthday of one of the most inspiring and empowering women who ever lived. This woman was a definition of perseverance, determination and fearlessness. Her grit and strength are still looked up to by millions and she was the first female politician to secure the prime minister seat. She was Benazir Bhutto and on her birthday, we are paying tribute to her!
Who Was Benazir Bhutto?
Benazir Bhutto was the eldest daughter of the shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto a leader who was famous for his slogan “roti, kapra and makaan.” Being the eldest daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benzari was poised and sensible. As a young child, she developed a keen sense of giving back to the people of her country.
She saw her father being at the forefront of politics and was motivated to join her father’s hand in that. Things in her life however changed when her father was hanged by the famous general Zia-ul-Haq.
Academic Qualifications
Since Benazir was always serious about serving in politics, she went ahead to study subjects like comparative government, international law, diplomacy economics, and politics at the world-famous prestigious universities like Harvard and Oxford.
The reason why she studied these subjects was because she had a firm belief in democracy and always wanted to lead in politics.
Rise To Power
It was within a few years of her father’s demise that Benazir saw a steep rise in her fame and power. Being the eldest and determined like her father, she was committed to bringing back the democracy that the generals of the country at that time took.
Both Benazir Bhutto and her brother Murtaza Bhutto ended up becoming strong opposers of Zia-ul-Haq regimes and together they stood firm against him. It was then that Benazir took responsibility and led her role as the head of her party.
After the sudden and mysterious death of Zia-ul-Haq in a plane accident, elections took place in which Benazir Bhutto won with a landslide victory.
This made her the first female prime minister to become the prime minister in the world of Islam.

Benazir Bhutto was exceptional in many cases and this meant that she could be everyone’s leader. She was thoroughly loved and admired by people, especially women and children.
She was thoroughly loved by the people and she was one of the many politicians who devoid of any criticism always led democracy to win. Her other contributions and accomplishments also include how she was dedicated to providing for women especially those who came from lower backgrounds.
Furthermore, she also attempted to wipe out unemployment which to some extent she did but couldn’t do it fully because of the financial status of the country at that time. During her regime, she also took strict measures against narcotics.
Personal Life
Her personal life was no less known. Benazir married Asif Ali Zardari who hailed from a business family. She then had four children who are now quite famous for their inclusion and participation in politics, one of the most prominent names being that of Bilawal Bhutto.
Death
It was in December 2007 when news shook the entire nation and this news was the death of Benazir Bhutto who was assassinated just weeks before the election during her election campaign. The main perpetrators behind the assassination are still unknown but this news shocked everyone including her family who were heartbroken by her tragic death
