What Is The NEET Fiasco About?
A lot has been going on social media for the past few days and if there is one news that has emerged over the past few days then it is the NEET exam that took place in India apparently as we see it, we can feel that it has created waves in India and for all the wrong reasons.
Here is what you need to know about it. But before we start, what is NEET?
What Is NEET?
National Eligibility cum entrance test is a single-level national test carried out for medical aspirants enabling them to seek medical admission at a medical college to become doctors. It is a nationwide test carried out by NTA, the National Testing Agency. This enables millions across the country to undergo one of the toughest exams.
It was this year’s NEET exam where many students were seen scoring surprisingly high marks which is quite impossible in the case of NEET and as we saw the cut-off the merit dropped immensely. It was later revealed that the NEET exam was already leaked to a few students which led to an imbalance in the results of millions of students.
Was the NEET 2024 Fair?
The answer to this question is a big no. As we see how things have unfolded over time, we can very clearly see that in the aftermath of the NEET 2024 examination, many have started to question the fairness and accuracy of the NEET exam. This year’s NEET as we saw has been marred with controversies and administrative errors where many students were given grace marks. This was also seen in some centres where unusual grace marks were given to the students and many students were seen receiving questionable marks.
In conversation with students who undertook the exam and parents who went through the painful ordeal it was later revealed that there was a mishandling of the paper furthermore, the parents also revealed that after some time the examiners realised that the question paper that they had handed over is the wrong question paper. This also resulted in a loss of time. However, it was later reported that the paper ended at the designated time and the students couldn’t get any marks.
Who Is To Blame For?
The ultimate blame that goes, is to NTA. The National Testing Agency is under great scrutiny where they are intensely criticised for leaking and selling paper. It was also revealed after some time that leaked papers were sold at a hefty price to the students.
All these claims were however denied by the NTA. A petition has also been filed in courts nationwide, seeking affair resolution and accountability from the NTA. The legal challenges also raise concerns raised over the uniformity in high scores, this also includes 67 students receiving 720/720 in their NEET exam. This has furthermore, deepened the issue and has raised questions over the fairness and integrity of the exam.
Our Opinion
At the end of the day, it breaks our hearts to see the result of many students who have already seen so much and now witnessing this unfairness and injustice, is something that completely breaks our hearts. We wish them nothing but free and fair results.
