There is no denying that Pakistan is the hub for domestic abuse. As a nation, we are absolutely at a low when it comes to treating our women. From rising rape cases to daily harassment, our women have seen it all. Recently, news emerged amidst all this when we saw a celebrity and social media personality being injured and bruised by her husband.

What Happened?
It was reported that former actress and TV model Zainab Jameel who was earlier in the showbiz industry and later left it for a life of piety, was injured badly. She opened up about her struggles and made some startling revelations where she mentioned that she was a first-hand victim of domestic abuse by her husband at the behest of his second wife.
It was on May 22, when Zainab Jameel was ambushed and shot by unknown assailants leading her to develop serious injuries where she was badly shot by these assailants. The police went on to register a case against the two unknown individuals who shot her. What was even more was that Zainab’s husband secured bail because of his connection with the case.
It was earlier, however, thought that the shot must have been done mistakenly, but as the case unfolded we saw how Zainab revealed that it was due to her husband’s connection with her and the maltreatment that she has to bore because of him. It was later revealed that Zainab suffered at the hands of his husband where he would mistreat her. Zainab went ahead and blamed her husband and his second wife for this brutal shit where she was buried and it was near fatal shot.
Maryam Nawaz sent direct action for swift action but despite the directives, the primary suspects remain out at large.

As of right now, it is reported that Zainab is in serious condition as she was shot and is currently going through extensive medical treatment for multiple gunshot wounds and she is vocal about her sufferings in interviews and podcasts.
She asserts and maintains her stance that she was maltreated at the hands of he husband and his second wife. She also maintained that her husband who was swayed by the hands of his second wife abused her emotionally and psychologically. She also maintained that this shot was also done because of her husband.
She also went on to share the emotional and psychological abuse that was directed at her where she mentioned that she used to get minimal money and was restricted from using her phone. She shared her ordeal in various interviews. She also disclosed that she was forced to give up her career and dress according to her in-laws ‘ likes and preferences.

While we talk about the very importance of marriage and while marriage is simply glorified in our culture, it is pertinent to note that marriage is also something that many women in our country struggle with. From child marriage to physical abuse, from psychological abuse to financial constraints, our world has seen it all!
Zainab Jameel‘s case is unfortunately no different from the ordeal many women in this country go through. It is something that most women not only experience but rather live daily. For a woman marriage in this country is contrary to what they are preached.
It was reported, that many women in this country are denied the right to earn, many are not allowed to continue their studies after marriage, most are not given monthly pocket money from their husbands and so many are expected to only serve their in-laws who are not their responsibility in the first place.
