Imran Khan Sentenced To Ten Years In Jail
As we are here, amidst the election season we are bombarded by another piece of news that has sent waves all over the country. Just yesterday, it came out that former prime minister Imran Khan was sentenced to Ten Years In Jail.
Just him, former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi is also sentenced to 10 years of jail time.
Here’s what we know more about it.
Backstory of Ten Years In Jail
As we all are aware, Imran Khan was ousted from his office and his government was overturned back in 2022.
We saw him and his party members being arrested in these two years Ten Years In Jail.
We also saw multiple arrests and riots. Indeed it was pretty chaotic for the whole country.

In March 2022, Imran Ten Years In Jail waved a letter to the PTI rally, saying he had evidence that an international conspiracy was hatched to topple his government.
The conviction under the Secrets Act comes a week before general elections in which he is barred from standing. While there is an air of politics and major political parties are contesting in elections these days.

But today’s conviction means that both of them are disqualified from contesting in elections for the next five years.
The prosecution on the other hand was implying that the former Prime Minister’s actions amounted to leaking a classified document and damaging diplomatic relations. the latter charge can lead to life imprisonment or even the death penalty.

International media was also not allowed to attend court hearings or proceedings in special court which have been going on over the last few months.
Another Imran Khan’s aide said his legal team had no opportunity to represent him.
They also claimed that they were not allowed to cross-examine witnesses but he was confident an appeal would be upheld in the high court.

A lot of people are criticizing and questioning the credibility of the coming elections as the most popular leader is in jail and his party has been sidelined.

At the same time, while his rival, who used to be so close to the military, has fallen out of favour.
