Heeramandi: All That Glitters Is Not Gold
Well, well, we know what you all must be thinking about, the past week was just something else, right? We all waited for a series that was by far one of the most anticipated series ever and yes you guessed it right, it’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Baazar. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is seen after a long time and post Gangubai success, our hopes were high. But as we delved more into the world of Heeramandi, we saw few if not many underwhelming aspects of the show. Let’s explore the world of heeramandi together and analyse all the overwhelming and underwhelming aspects together.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali: The Dream Director of Heeramandi
Sanjay Leela Bhansali is one of the greatest directors that we all know of. From the opulent world of Devdas to the romance of Ramleela, his filmography is something that needs to be studied. Sanjay Leela Bhansali has cemented his role in the industry as a great filmmaker but with this series, we are questioning him.
Weak Story Line
No doubt that the show was anticipated but with its weak storyline the audience was shocked. As the series progressed, the story at one point became strong but then again we saw the story being rather dragged. This made the viewers yawn throughout the series. With such a massive cast, the audience expected much more from the story which unfortunately didn’t work out this time.
Some elements just didn’t match up in the series. To put it in a nutshell, the story at one point was extremely boring.
The Star Cast
The other thing about the Heeramandi series was the star cast. So many of us were looking forward to the massive star cast that the show was offering. From the legendary Manisha Koirala to Sonakshi Sinha, we were all very excited. Furthermore, seasoned actors like Aditi Rao Hyderi, Richa Chadha and the ever-loved Fareeda Jalal also made headlines. But just when we thought that it was it, we were taken away by another surprise which was the comeback of Fardeen Khan after so many years.
Weak Performance
You need to give it to the actors of the show who showed us all great acting. People were thoroughly impressed by Sonakshi Sinha’s vicious acting and role but for some reason, it was the Character of Alamzeb played by Sharmin Segal that bothered people.
The actress delivered very underwhelming and bad acting where in most scenes she was seen just expressionless. With such a powerful character at hand, many thought that it was rather wasted on someone like Sharmin who didn’t deliver good acting. The expressions and the dialogue delivery were all wooden and stiff. Many netizens speculate that it was maybe because of her links with SLB that she got the role easily. What do you think about it?
Top Notch Music
If there is one thing that is never a miss from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s side than it is the music. SLB has given us one of the best music over the years. This time he took the music department into his own hands and he directed most of the songs. Music and the musical performances were something that most of us liked in the end. The revival of classical music is something that we all need to credit Sanjay Leela Bhansali for.
Grand, Regal And Oppulance
Heeramandi’s grandness could not go unnoticed. The grand sets, the beautiful dresses and the royal jewelry were something that left most of us awestruck.
Lack Of Research
Another turn-off from the side of the filmmakers was the lack of research done by them. Heeramandi as we all know is based in pre-independence Lahore. While it showed the pre-independence times it failed to fully show how things were back then. From royal castle-like houses to expensive jewellery, as many know it wasn’t something that Heeramandi was famous for.
Furthermore, the Urdu accents were rather more of a joke. There were some scenes where users especially on Twitter noticed huge mistakes from the side of filmmakers.
Our Verdict
In the end, as far as our verdict is concerned, then we would give Heeramandi the diamond bazaar 2 stars.
